Compo-Seat
Form follows tension
The shape of the ‘Compo Seat’ uses tension to spread the weight of the user evenly.
As a result only a relatively small amount of material is required for the seat to be strong enough.
It comes in two varieties, galvanized steel and
a special composite material.
The composite is the result of a series of experiments on combining hard and soft materials.
In this case oak veneer and a fine burlap.
When laminated together the hard material provides stiffness and rigidity, while the soft material provides flexibility and fiber strength.
Resulting in a strong, lightweight material, that feels like wood but has properties similar to sheet metal.
